Looking back at folklore, magpies are connected to a thief or alternatively the famous magpie rhyme.
This rhyme is as follows: One for sorrow two for joy, two for joy three for a girl, four for a boy, five for silver and six for gold and seven for a secret that must never be told. In the past magpie's have symbolized things that are quite negative.
